Thank you everyone for an excellent 2007 annual meeting. The conference was a great success. It was certainly nice to get caught up with old acquaintances and making new ones.
Congratulations to Carmela A. Bailey (National Program Leader, Agricultural Materials, USDA-CREES, Washington, DC) on receiving this year's Anson E. "Tommy" Thompson Career Achievement Award. This award is given to the person who throughout his or her career has made significant contributions to the development and/or utilization of industrial crops and/or products. Ms. Bailey has championed the cause of industrial crops, biofuels and sustainable agriculture throughout her long career, and has been of immense assistance across these fields, impacting basic and applied research as well as commercialization of such research. She has been a strong supporter of AAIC over the years and has been a critical link to conveying the society's message back to federal funding agencies.
The Outstanding Student of the Year Award was presented to Marisol T. Berti while she attended the Plant Sciences Department at North Dakota State University. Dr. Berti has shown exceptional abilities as a research scientist and has been tremendously productive in her studies on the agronomics and seed physiology of cuphea.
