Keynote speaker: ‘The next generation of biofuels’ - Wayne Seames, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering, University of North Dakota

He is currently leading a team to develop aviation biofuel and other products from crop oils.  He is also the principal investigator on a $2.5 million grant to advance understanding of the way trace metals are formed during coal combustion.  Seames has also worked on commercializing some of the research projects he's been involved with, and is a co-inventor on six provisional patent applications within the last two years.

  Keynote speaker: 'Second generation biofuels' - Benjamin A.. Thorp,III, Renewable Energy Consultant, Past President Flambeau River BioRefinery

 

Ben is a leader in renewable energy, a former leader in pulp and paper associations, and retired director pulp & paper engineering, Georgia-Pacific Corp. In addition Ben was an officer with Chesapeake Corp. James River Corp., BE&K, Poyry-BEK and Huyck Corp.  Ben graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, MD with a bachelor’s degree in physics.  He completed advanced studies in Mechanical Engineering, Management, and Marketing.  He is currently serving on 3 company and 3 non profit boards. He is a past board member of several organizations. Honors awarded to Ben include being named a TAPPI Fellow in 1986, being awarded the TAPPI Paper & Board Division Leadership Award in 1994, receiving the PIMA Glen T. Renegar Award in 1999 and the 2002 PIMA-CPBIS Management Excellence award.  Thorp is the holder of six U.S. Patents with others pending submission.

Invited Speakers:  ‘Issues and Trends in the Global Botanical Market’ - Mr. Mark Blumenthal (American Botanical Council)

Mark is the founder and executive director of the American Botanical Council (ABC), the editor/publisher of HerbalGram, and the senior editor of three of ABC’s books. He represents ABC in the media, to ABC stakeholders, and in dozens of appearances at conventions, conferences, and other appearances. He has guided ABC strategically since its founding.
